How do I kick off Unrulr with my students?

Step 1. Make sure you have already set up Unrulr for your class. (See How do I set up Unrulr?)

Step 2. Familiarize yourself with the basic post creation process.

Go through the steps explained in How do I create a post, step-by-step?

Create your first post for students to view when they open the app for the first time. You might introduce yourself in your first post.

Step 3. Create a Prompt for students to respond to when they make their first learning Moment.

1. Create your Prompt (See How do I create a Prompt?). You might ask students to share something about themselves. For example:
   • Share something with the class that few people know about you.
   • Share with the class how you’re feeling today.
   • Share with the class how you feel about using Unrulr.
2. When you come to the sharing screen in the Prompt creation process, make sure you share the Prompt with all the students in the class you are welcoming. To do this, make sure “Entire group, Students & Mentors” is selected under the class.

Step 4. Have your students use Unrulr for the first time.

1. The goal of this step is to make sure everyone can get into the app and knows how to make a learning Moment.
2. Explain to your students the purpose of your use of Unrulr. (See What are some ways I can use Unrulr with my class and what are some best practices? for some ideas.) For example:
   • Getting to know each other better so we can help each other.
   • Sharing our work so we can get feedback and ideas from each other.
   • Capturing your progress on your projects so you will have evidence of your process when you present at the end of your project.
3. Ask students to take out their phones or tablets and download Unrulr from the app store. If they don’t have a device, they can navigate to https://community.unrulr.com in their browser.
4. Have students sign in to Unrulr with the accounts you set up for them in the set up process.
5. Have students read the initial app walk-through that pops up the first time they open the app. The walk-though will show them where to find Prompts and how to create posts.
6. Ask students to respond to your prompt with their first learning Moment. To do so, they tap the "Respond" button under your prompt. (See How do students find and respond to Prompts?)
7. After making their response posts, ask students to refresh their screen by swiping down on the feed from the top. This way, they can see their peers’ posts as they get created.
8. Ask students to make one helpful comment on one of their peers’ posts.

Step 5. Execute your plan for using Unrulr in your class.
