Help! What do I do if my team can't sign in to Unrulr?

Google recently made some changes to their access controls, and for some of our partners, this has created issues with accessing Unrulr.

What are the symptoms of a Google access control issue?

On iOS

If you see a message like

Access Blocked: Your institution’s admin needs to review Unrulr.

or

If you are a developer of Unrulr, see error details. Error 400: access_not_configured.

that's a sign we're on the right track!

On Android

You see a permanent spinner after entering your google credentials

When you respond to a prompt in a group rostered by Google Classroom

You get a message saying something like "Post failed, would you like to retry?"

That's not what we're seeing

If you don't see that message on iOS, or the spinner on Android, double check the following:

1. Does the user actually have an account in Unrulr?
2. Is their email correct?
3. Are they in at least one group?

All of these questions can be answered via the Unrulr admin console, and if the answer to all of the above is Yes, then please reach out to us at [e-mail].

So how do we fix the Google access error?

Option #1

Google has a published article on the steps needed to fix this.  Unfortunately, we haven't yet been able to verify this process works, as the "App access control card", mentioned in step 2, doesn't show up for us.  However, this might be because we don't ourselves, as an organization, have any employees under the age of 18.  So it might work for you!  And if it does, please let us know at [e-mail] :)

Option #2

This is a series of 5 steps that we have tested and confirmed as working.

1. Tap the "Add a filter button"

2. Type in "Unrulr", and select the App name contains "Unrulr" option

3. Hover over a row and hit the "Change access" button

4. Select "unrulr.com (all users)"

5. Select "Trusted"

6. Hit "Change access"

That should do it!
